Does Ryan Callahan deserve to be the new captain of the New York Rangers?

In the 85 year history of the New York Rangers, two of the 25 players who wore the C on their jersey (Brian Leetch and Chris Drury) were American born. To start the 86th and new season, Ryan Callahan was voted to replace Drury to become the 26th and third American born.
Does he deserve it? Absolutely because he leads by example by blocking shots which caused him to miss the playoffs after breaking his ankle from blocking a shot from big Zdeno Chara. He is an effective penalty killer, has averaged 20 goals in the past three seasons and was part of the USA Olympic team when it won sliver during the 2010 games in Vancouver.
While his leadership and determination is there, if it can rub off on newly acquired Brad Richards who was the prized free agent signing in the summer, talented yet injured prone Marian Gaborik and on All-Star Goalie Henrik Lundqvist expect to see the Rangers do big things come playoff time.
