A day to remember

It eventually had to happen. The expansion Montreal Impact finally won their first game in MLS history by defeating Toronto FC today by the score of 2-1. Here is how it happened.
In the 17th minute, after a brutal giveaway by Toronto midfielder Terry Dunfield, Lamar Neagle scooped up the ball, then gave a great pass to Sinisa Ubiparipovic who made a great finish and gave the Impact a 1-0 lead. 18 minutes later in the 35th minute, a mad scramble happened in the Montreal zone in which TFC striker Danny Kovermans had a golden oppurtunity to level the game but Goalkeeper Donovan Rickets made a hightlight material stop to keep the Impact on top.
Then in the second half things seemed to get worse for TFC. In the 65th minute, defender Logan Emory was sent off after tripping Impact speedster Sanna Nyassi in the box. It lead to a free kick for the Impact. Nyassi had the honour of taking the kick but TFC keeper Milos Kocic denied him with a great stop. Then in the 76th minute, the Impact once again had another indirect free kick in which Kocic made yet another big stop to give TFC a chance.
Eventually the wheels fell off for TFC. After Kocic kicked the ball as far as he could which led to a chance for TFC which was blocked by defender Matteo Ferrari, the Impact went on the counter attack. This saw Justin Mapp sending the ball to striker Andrew Wenger and he made no mistake putting the ball past Kocic and giving the Impact a 2-1 lead.
Danny Kovermans did score in the 87th minute but TFC's attempt at a comeback was a little too late. At the end of this the Impact finally got the monkey off their back but the team still has things to learn in its first season in the top flight of soccer in North America. Apart from this, today's game is truly something to remember.
